My 97 will do an honest 80 also. On more than one occasion I have had my carburetor slide become stubborn and refuse to rise. When this happens there seems to be no power at open throttle!
The throttle only controls the air butterfly and the slide then is supposed to lift by vacuum. Once I removed the air filter and squirted choke cleaner spray directly into the carb while the engine was running. I thought that this had cured the problem, but lately I had a reoccurrence of the problem. Really makes me mad. I guess if this problem does not go away I will have to take the carb off and clean and polish the slide.
